EU IV Portugal AAR Part 14 - 1521-1535

1521-1535 Regency Council

Regency Council for a 2 year old, sigh... we now have a long time to wait before something exciting happens...

So let’s cash in on some Royal Marriages just in case of problems!

A pretender claims the throne in Madeira, and is dispatched summarily

and a war breaks out between Morocco and Tunisia, which Morocco appears to be doing well in...

We spend much of our time coring, converting and changing culture on the provinces we took from Castile in our last war

and also take some time to continue our colonial expansion, and by 1532, South America looks like this. Note that the Castilian coastal provinces have formed Castilian Brazil, whilst their inland provinces are still colonies, and won't join the colonial nation until they are finished. Down in Argentina, it won't be long until we have a second colonial subject nation to the south of Portuguese Brazil.

We also finish colonising the Falklands, and send colonists to the island of St Helena

Meanwhile, Castile has expanded into the Caribbean and Atlantic, taking the island of Bermuda

The war in North Africa seems to have ended in Morocco’s favour, with Tunisia being completely annexed, although they do have something of a rebel problem

The Reformation spreads like wildfire across Europe. Here is the picture in 1528, with Protestant areas in blue, Catholic areas in yellow. We are as yet untouched by Protestantism

The counter-Reformation gets going in 1532, and we take the national decision to support it, as we will need the extra missionaries once we start our push into East Africa and the East Indies. It has an unfortunate side effect of slowing down our research efforts, but hey ho, we tend to lag behind our neighbours anyway, so the 5% nerf gets swallowed up in other research bonuses

In 1533, our 14 year old monarch tragically dies, and we are left without an heir of any sort.... oh dear! Fortunately, we have a great deal of prestige, so it is unlikely anyone will claim our throne, but you never know!.

So, we leave it in 1535, with no legal heir, and a government run by our advisors. We have Royal Marriages with Austria, France, England and Castile, so we may get a monarch from one of those royal houses taking over... who knows!
