EU IV Portugal AAR Part 3

In the last part, we despatched our intrepid explorer fleets to the mercy of the high seas. First to return is Diego Gomes, with tales of new lands in Recife (Brazil) and strangely-shaped vegetable things known as potatoes

Alvaro Fernandes returns from the south, having rounded the great southwestern bulge of Africa

Meanwhile, we achieve our Papal mission, and reap the prestige

Diego Gomes continues his quest to the South of Brazil, discovering the great bay of the River Plate

and rounds the deadly Cape Horn, discovering the Straits of Magellan (or should that be the Straits of Gomes?)

Alvaro Fernandes travels south to the tip of Africa, discovering lands of great plenty

No news has been heard of our third explorer, Nuno Tristao, who headed westwards across the great Ocean. In the meantime, our colonies are expanding, and we construct first to improve defensibility

Until, finally, the Indies are found by Nuno Tristao

By the end of 1447, Portugal is the leader in world exploration, and the known world is a much greater place than previous scholars had thought...

How will we increase our knowledge? Will we colonise new worlds and discover new civilisations? Join us next time...
